Malaysia construction sector outlook 'good'

Results posted by companies in the second quarter of 2009 indicate that the outlook is good for firms in the construction and property sector. The Malaysian Insider reported that the figures recorded during this period were "better-than-expected" among many corporations.

It noted that many analysts are also optimistic about the banking sector in the south-east Asian nation. The publication cited a market focus report from HwangDBS, which looked favourably on the construction industry in Malaysia.

"It expects positive news flow in the coming 12 months on the back of pump-priming efforts to throw the spotlight on the sector," the Malaysian Insider said.

This was despite the sector turning in a range-bound performance in the preceding quarter.

Last month, DSR Asset Management asserted that investors could find they get better value for money when purchasing property in Malaysia. The firm claimed that the exchange rate for the ringgit against the dollar, pound and euro could make it particularly attractive to Western buyers
